No longer a secret...

I may be clapping my hands,
but I don't belong to a crowd of clappers.
I'm neither this nor that.

I'm not part of a group that loves flute music,
or one that loves gambling,
or one that loves drinking wine.

Those who live in time,
descended from Adam,
made of earth and water,
I'm not part of that.

Don't listen to what I say,
as though these words came from an inside
and went to an outside.

Your faces are very beautiful,
but they are wooden cages.

You'd better run from me.
My words are fire.

I have nothing to do with being famous,
or making grand judgments,
or feeling full of shame.

I borrow nothing.
I don't want anything from anybody.

I flow through all human beings.
Love is my only companion

When Union happens, my speech
goes inward, toward Shams.

At that meeting,
all the secrets of language
will no longer be secret.

Version by Coleman Barks (from a translation by A.J. Arberry)
"Like This" , Maypop, 1990

If I am hand-clapping, I belong not to the clappers;
I am neither of this nor of that, I am of that mighty city.
I am not for fluting and gambling, I am not for wine and liquor,
I am neither leaven nor crop-sickness,
I am neither like this nor like that.

If I am drunk and dissolute, I am not drunk with wine like you;
I am not of earth nor of water,
I am not of the people of time.

The mind of the son of Adam – what knowledge has it of this utterance?
For I am hidden by two hundred veils from the world entire.

Hear not these words as from me, nor from this clear thought,
for I neither receive nor seize this outward and inward.
Though your face is beautiful, the cage of your soul is of wood;
run away from me or you will burn, for my tongue is a flame.

I am not of scent nor colour, I am not of fame nor shame;
beware of my poplar arrow, for God is my bow.

I seize not raw wine, nor borrow from anyone,
I seize neither breath nor snare,
O my youthful fortune.

I am as the rosebower of paradise,
I am the joy-garden of the world,
for my spirit is flowing through the spirits of all men.

The sugarbed of your phantom brings rose-sugar to me;
in the garden of realities I scatter the rose of a hundred petals.
When I enter the rose-showering garden of union with you,
make me sit down, for I am a target for your brand.

Love, what a mate you are, how strange, how marvellous!
When you seized my mouth, my expression went inwards.
When my soul reaches Tabriz, to come to Shams al-Haqq u Din,
I will bring to an end all the secrets of speech.

I am the sharer of your secrets

how very close
is your soul with mine
i know for sure
everything you think
goes through my mind

i am with you
now and doomsday
not like a host
caring for you
at a feast alone

with you i am happy
all the times
the time i offer my life
or the time
you gift me your love

offering my life
is a profitable venture
each life i give
you pay in turn
a hundred lives again

in this house
there are a thousand
dead and still souls
making you stay
as this will be yours

a handful of earth
cries aloud
i used to be hair or
i used to be bones

and just the moment
when you are all confused
leaps forth a voice
hold me close
i'm love and
i'm always yours

Translation by Nader Khalili
"Rumi -- Fountain of Fire"
Cal-Earth Press, 1994

How close your soul is to my soul! For whatever thing you are
thinking, I know.
I have a token even closer than this; come close, and behold
my token.
In dervish guise you come into the midst; do not jest and say,
"I am in the midst."
I am like the column amidst your house; I am like a water-
spout hanging down from your roof.
I am a sharer of your secrets on the day of mustering and
resurrection, I am not a passing host like worldly friends.
In your banquet I go round like the wine, in time of your
battle I go before you like a lance.
If like lightning I make a trade of dying, like the lightning of
your beauty I am without a tongue.
Always I am joyful; it makes no difference whether I yield my
soul, or seize a soul.
If I give you my soul, it will be good trade, for in exchange for
a soul you will give me a hundred worlds.
In this house thousands and more are dead; there you are
seated saying, "Behold my household!"
A handful of dust says, "I was once a tress"; another says, "I am
a bone."
You become bewildered; then suddenly Love comes saying, "I
will deliver you this very instant from yourself."
Silence, Khusrau, speak no more of Shirin; my mouth is
burning with sweetness.*

Heaven's secrets

never say
no one knows the way
never say
profound humans
can't be found
just because
you're kept out of
heaven's secrets
you think everyone
is like you

Translation by Nader Khalili
Rumi, Dancing the Flame
Cal-Earth Press, 2001

You claim skill in every art
and knowledge of every science,
Yet you cannot even hear
what your own heart is telling you.

Until you can hear that simple voice
How can you be a keeper of secrets?
How can you be a traveller on this path?

To put my finger on it, I cannot....

Kiss me on the lips..
LIKE THIS !!!... LIKE THIS !!!

Secrets bursting inside me

I can't let you know
all the secrets
I can't open to you
all the doors
there is something inside
that makes me happy
but I can't put my finger
on its source

Translation by Nader Khalili

The secrets are bursting inside me
but to give them away and
expose them to mockery, I cannot.
Something inside me is bursting with joy
but to put my finger on it, I cannot.

In Silence

Expression always falls short of meaning.
The Prophet said, "Whoever knows God, his tongue falters."
Speech is an astrolabe in its reckoning.
How much does it really know of the sky and the sun?
Or of that Sky which holds this heaven as a speck;
and that Sun which shows this sun to be a grain of sand?

Mathnawi II: 3013-3015
Version by Camille and Kabir Helminski

REVISIT

Hush! And say no more...
The tip of a tongue doesn't hold any secret
Don't ever try to explain...
Silent!
and
Kiss me on my lips..

<- End HERE

GOT IT ?

"I followed my own path of love,
and now I am in bad repute.
How can a secret remain veiled,
if from every tongue it drips?"
(Hafiz Al Shirazi)

( سورة التوبة , At-Taubah, Chapter #9, Verse #128)
"In Silence"

A guide has entered this life in silence.
His message is only heard in silence.

Take a sip of his precious wine
and lose yourself.
Dont insult the greatness of his love,
for he helps all those who suffer, in silence.

Polish the mirror between the breaths.
Go with him beyond words.
He knows your every deed.
He is the one who moves the wheel of heaven,
in silence.

Every thought is buried in your heart;
He will reveal them one by one, in silence.

Turn each of your thoughts into a bird
and let them fly to the other world.
One is an owl, one is a falcon, one is a crow.
Each one is different from the others
but they are all the same in silence.

To see the Moon that cannot be seen
turn your eyes inward and look at yourself,
in silence.

In this world and the next,
dont talk about this and that;
Let him show you everything,
shining as one . . .
in silence.

The Agreement

AL-MA'IDAH (The Table Spread)
Surah 5, Ayat 7

"5:7. Dan ingatlah akan rahmat Allah ke atas kamu, dan perjanjian-Nya yang Dia buat dengan kamu apabila kamu berkata, "Kami dengar, dan kami taat." Dan takutilah Allah; sesungguhnya Allah mengetahui apa yang di dalam dada."

"5:7. "And call in remembrance the favour of God unto you, and His covenant, which He ratified with you, when you said: "We hear and we obey"; and fear God, for God knows well the secrets of your hearts."

AGREEMENTS

Watching the world
From our window of life
Can we see all there is
That is real
That is right
To the distance so far
From our true understanding
Making us want more
Making us see less

The fire
Making me clean
Making me fly
Spinning me 'round
Spinning me 'round

The fire within your eyes
This mystic time
I've known before
Once before
The flame within my heart
Agreements made
Are now realized
Like before

Agreements of Trust
Agreements of Faith
Agreements of Truth
Agreements of Liberty

Speaking of worlds
Driven far far apart
How the (industry) innocence
Crushes the nature of things
To the point that we lose
All we're trying to gain
Making us want more
Making us see less

The fire
Making us clean
Making us fly
Spinning us 'round
Spinning us 'round

The fire within your eyes
This mystic time
I've known before
Once before
The flame within my heart
Agreements made
Are now realized
Like before

Agreements of Trust
Agreements of Faith
Agreements of Truth
Agreements of Liberty

The fire
Making us clean
Making us fly
Spinning us 'round
Spinning us 'round

The (fire) flame
Making us clean (dream)
Making me fly
Spinning me 'round
Spinning me 'round

Agreements of Trust
Agreements of Faith
Agreements of Truth
Agreements of Love
Agreements of Liberty
